A note from Bro. Jim

| |
I grew up in Morrilton and have lived in Arkansas for most of my life. I attended the University of Central Arkansas, CCJC, Arkansas State University and Williams Baptist College.
|
| |
In 1983 I married my wonderful wife Pamela Gould and God has blessed us with four children and one daughter in-law, son-Evan and his wife Tosha, son-Jonathan, daughters-Hannah and Hope. Prior to coming to Pottsville I served as Pastor at Hector First Baptist. In 2002, God lead our family to Pottsville FBC. Here I serve as a Bi-vocational Pastor. I am also employed by a regional private non-profit agency that serves individuals with developmental disabilities.

I have been told that my life motto is “That is all about Jesus and He is all about you”.

I came to know the Lord Jesus and put my belief in Him at the age of 15. I have been asked the question so many times how can someone truly know that they are saved? Well my answer is… “before you can be found… you have to know that you are lost” before you can be made well you have to realize you are sick!” (Luke 15:11-32…Check out Verse 17a) (Luke 5:31-32) (Luke 15:17a) This was me. I remember coming to myself and realizing I was lost and sick. A good friend invited me to church and there I heard God speak through His word being preached. I remembered being convicted of sin (John 6:44) and what the payment was for my sin…Death! (Romans 6:23) Deep in my soul I knew my lost condition and began to search for a solution. (Luke 17:33; Luke 19:10; John 11:25-26; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 5:8) November 30th, 1976 I finally admitted to God my condition (Romans 3:23). I prayed confessing my need for Jesus to forgive me of my sins (Roman 10:9-10). I asked Jesus to be my Lord and asked God to give me purpose and direction.
Though I have been far from perfect, (1 John 1:9) I have never doubted what God did in my life that night. My life was changed. Even to this day it is His Holy Spirit that continues to guide me and provide purpose beyond my own abilities. (Philippians 4:13)

I came to First Baptist Pottsville in December 2002 because God gave me a vision for what the church could become. I believe that God doesn’t leads us to place, however, he leads us to people that we can minister to and /or be ministered to. It’s not about a religion, however, a relationship with Christ and His Grace that will lead to the purpose God has for you (Ephesians 2:8-10) God is showing me how First Baptist Pottsville can be a positive spiritual force in the communities of Pottsville, Russellville and the River Valley Area, and also how we can impact people spiritually all around the world.
